Finally, reporting on the two WPB shows...
Hubby and I left Thursday morning and drove out to the east coast of Florida. It is about a 4 hour drive, marked by the exciting Yeehaw Junction half way point. We stayed at the Marriott Ocean Pointe at Palm Beach Shores. We really liked this place. We were able to get a "King Villa" with ocean view, full kitchen, etc. for the same price as a tiny room at The Breakers or at the Four Seasons (which we had tried the last couple years - liked The Breakers, Four Seasons not so much). I really enjoyed being able to make my own breakfast and eat it out on the balcony. This is a family vacation complex, so lots of kids, but lots of activities too. We played shuffle board, enjoyed the pool and the beach.
Thursday night we went down to the Clematis Street area of West Palm Beach. We went down there to go to a specific restaurant, which was closed for renovations. There was also an outdoor festival going on, so lots of crowds. We ended up eating at a French bistro. The food was really good but the service was a bit slow getting going. Typical, I guess :-).
We then walked down the street to the Roxy, where we stood in line for about half an hour to get into the club where Tim Reynolds TR3 was playing. We finally got in and caught the end of the first band - a great reggae band. Then TR3 came on. They were awesome. Lots of energy. We ended up leaving a bit early (around midnight) before the set was done because I will still feeling the effects of the veggie burger at the Ford amphitheater (really sore stomach - couldn't really stand up for very long). Sigh.
Friday night's DMB show was great. We tailgated for a bit. I visited with Captain Morgan. Seats were great: about 9 rows from the stage (bought them from Stub Hub because my warehouse seats really really sucked). Great set list, great crowd.
I have some pictures and movies (sound in the movies is not so great).
Saturday night's show was a very different experience. First off, it rained on our tailgating parade, so tailgating was mostly done from inside the car. Sigh. Then our seats were horrible (warehouse seats) and we were surrounded by obnoxious drunks who kept presenting so much drama that they were an insane distraction. People falling over, spilling beer on you, almost getting into fist fights, talking and screaming so loudly you couldn't hear the music at times. Plus getting hit with beach balls non-stop. It was really too bad, because the set list was great. But I spent to much time dodging people, beer, and beach balls to really focus on the show. I am downloading the tape so that I can hopefully enjoy it later.
Next year, I will need to consider getting non-warehouse tickets for both shows, I think.
